Howdy, Jerry! Good to see a post from you. I hope you and your dad are staying healthy,...and I hope the car is coming along nicely! I've been getting the Spider's frame reinforced for some spirited spring driving,... All have a good week! Todd.
The Camaro is coming along, slowly as ever. Yesterday Dad (mostly Dad on this one) got one repair out of the way that had us pretty worried. The front part of the rear sub frame has a section right under the back seats where 3 layers of metal are spot welded all together. Both sides of the sub frame had pretty severe rust right where the drain holes are. I think the way the body sat on the trailer for all those years had those drain holes blocked. I cut out the rusty section of the outer layer, and both of us were very relieved to find that the 2nd layer was still in pretty good shape once all the rust from the outer layer was scraped off. Dad was able to cut patches to fit and weld them in. Now I really need to line up a body man and get the exterior patch panels put in and get it coated with primer. Updated the project thread if you're interested. Reinforcing the Spider's frame, eh? Sounds like you're planning some VERY spirited spring driving!! Jerry
Cracks around the studs that hold the engine crossmember to the bottom of the unibody frame rails: Pretty much ANY driving requires a repair to this,...but we're doing larger, grade eight "through-bolts" and a welded upper plate (kinda inverted "U" bolt shaped construct), in addition to the repair of the bottom of the rail - both left and right sides. THEN we'll get to the spirited driving,...!
Got a couple of inches of snow - and some terrible cold, up here!! My well-wishes to all!! Stay warm!
We've built up about three inches overall, of moist snow. Colorado doesn't seem to be melting snow the day, or two after, anymore,...no more 60 degree days in the dead of winter, anymore. White Christmas,...?
