My ash tray will not stay put and it's driving me nuts. What can I do to keep it from sliding out so often (other than the obvious McGuyver fix)?

I pulled it and put some hard stick on side molding(thin kind) to make it much stiffer..

just take out the 4 screws that hold in the metal slider. now bend the tabs back with a screwdriver to make the ashtrey stay put. once you remove the metal holder its obvious what the fix is.

Install a V6 in your car.... It won't slide out when you accelerate. ;)

the second gen camaro had one of the biggest ashtray ive ever seen ( volume wise ) . i guess that gm did the research and found the mullet crowd smoked alot. the placement is the worst though , with the 73 and up having the only ashtray in the car up by the drivers knee. that thing has got to hold about 40 butts easy . i don't smoke but back in the day (78 or so) when my friend had a 73 RS , his used to be full all the time ( nasty) . my car when i got it was a little tight so i lithium greased the track .
