I don't see how an inductive pickup light would care if its points or HEI presuming both are conventional type. Its reading the electrical impulse as the plug is firing.

I can see how a multiple spark discharge can screw with it and I thought that is why they say don't use it with ignition boxes.

I wonder about that too. The electrical release makes the plug arc, nothing to change that signal to the light?

I have an Innova digital dial back light, works great with my Performance Distributors HEI. A dial-back light not working with HEI maybe more of an individual brand design issue than an issue with analog vs capacative discharge.
