Dies when put into gear

I have a 1978 camaro with a edelbrock avs2 carburetor and edelbrock performer intake with stock internals and timing. Since I've swapped over to the avs2 I put it into reverse and it runs fine then I put in drive and it dies, then I start it and then it's fine till the next morning any idea what could be happening? Any help is appreciated.

vacuum leak? i assume your foot is on the brakes when putting in gear.good place to start.check all your vacuum lines.

I have the vaccum set up for the distributor on the left one the brake booster vaccum is in and fine and the pcv valve is connected to the front one and the vaccum line on the right of the carb is plugged off anything else possible?

Aside from the intake manifold gasket itself, maybe the vacuum booster.

Ya my brake vaccum is all hooked up when running brakes work good

Since it started with the new carb and does it when it is cold, I would suggest richening the choke up and adding a little to the fast idle screw.

For clarity of your issue, is this stalling problem only occurring when the engine is cold? Once warmed up everything is fine?

Choke setting was my first thought too.
