Differential Tooling required?

    IMHO, thee best tool you can have is to a friend who rebuilds rear ends. They are usually stock car (left turn) mechanics so ask arpund your local stock car tracks for that person.

    Not sure I'm following you.... needed to be shimmed where? It's supposed to just rest with the collar against the housing. Where was the shim supposed to go?

    Some of the replacement pinion seals for the car 12 bolt don't fit correctly. If you drive them in all the way they will contact the outer pinion bearing and cause problems. The seal that is currently being sold for the car 12 bolt is actually a seal for the truck 12 bolt and not all of them work well. I check them as I'm driving them in and if I see that it's going to contact the outer bearing then I will leave it sticking out 1/16 to 1/8 inch.

    Got ya, haven't run into this problem yet, but most of the time I work on 10 bolts.

    I think I calculated 1/8th of an inch. (.125)
