I am very green to drag racing. I have taken my 02 Camaro to the track a handful of times for test and tune. I am still putting the 79 together, but when I get it together I plan to take it periodically. I have been reading everything I can find to improve my driving and times. But I keep running into jargon that I don't understand. I have seen threads for basic car terminology and thought it may be fun to establish a thread explaining all the common phrases and such used for drag racing.

In the TH350 burnout thread I ran into a couple I don't know, heres one:

get up on the tire quick - I know it's something to do with a burnout, just don't know what.

That's easy ..... Getting up on the tire quick means : get the rpm up on the motor to get the tires spinning quickly in the water box
