Another quick question. Second car I've taken apart, first one I'm putting back together😆 What accessories can I have on the motor, if any, when I put it back in?

With shorty headers (and A/C) it dropped into the engine bay without issue.

I only had to install the distributor, plug wires, carb, A/C compressor, power steering pump, belts and hoses after the engine was on its mounts.

Ah, the 500 pound engine lunge... well done.

All I will add is that you may be tempted to plop the distributor in before installing the engine....it is tempting because you have easy access to line up the oil pump drive and rotor on number 1. But, it is super easy to bash the distributor and/or cap on the firewall while paying attention to something else while lowering and wrestling with the engine.

Fuel pump and starter can go on, but if you are using long tube headers, you may have to take those things off again to slide the header into place. Same with the dipstick tube depending on the header, it might interfere.

^ Good points!

With the fuel pump attached... the motor mount bolt will need to go in from the back side.
I honestly don't remember if the starter was bolted to the engine when I did my swap.
( I don't think it was.)

I've always been a bare minimum kinda guy, even with core support/front sheet metal off, I had nothing on it accessory wise. I would rather have an easy time dropping the engine in than fight it if something is in the way. I did put fuel pump on and put bolt in from back on engine mount. In 45 years of pulling and installing engines, from Buicks to big and small block Mopar, Small block Chevy's I'd rather have the minimum weight hanging off the hoist and lots of room to work.

I even installed mine with the points distributor installed with the cap off and with the tranny.

I like to get everything I can on the engine out on the floor. Clutch, transmission, shift linkage. Put the headers in the engine bay, not on the motor. Leaning over the fenders for a couple hours is rough on this old man. Just be careful dropping it in, have a helper to watch what you can't. Have a block under the car for the tranny to sit on.

I used my 4 wheel tranny jack in its lowered position and put it under the tranny tail so it could slide back when I lowered the engine down and back. Or use a creaper.
