engine out of my 70 trying to ID

I would not throw it away, from your pictures it looks like a 4 bolt main, do the main caps have N on them? Since there is no way of telling if it is a 69 or 79 block just paint it orange can say it is a 69 block. :)
I'm no expert but the size of the pad the vin is stamped on looks too small to be a 1969 or early 70's block.

It isn't likely a '69 engine simply because up to and including 1969, Chevy coded engines with two letters like JB. Starting in 1970, Chevy went to three letters with car engines being Cxx and truck engines Txx.
The only '69 engines with three letters were the late production engines for Camaros when the 69 model year ran into the 70 model year. Since those were really 70 model engines, they got 3 letters, but no trucks were built that way.
