I try to replicate anything that came from the factory assembly process. My 70Z has a CE short block that was installed only a few months after the original owner took delivery. The dealer that did the warranty work didn’t even paint the short block! I am toying with the idea of putting it back together that way! I need professional help!

I feel your pain Buddy. My 70Z also has a CE block and I agree with previous comments that when replaced under warranty, the dealer would most likely not have painted the replacement block. However, as you know, I am building it to "as it would have left the factory" so it has been a constant struggle with how "sloppy" to be or not to be. I lean toward neat-and tidy, so with the exception of body-colored over spray on the underside, I am finishing the car how I think GM engineering and production intended it to be built. IMO, There is no "right" answer...do what pleases you. Will my car be over-restored compared to how it really left Norwood?...yup, but that's what makes me happy and since I'm the only one spending the $$ and time to build it, no one else's opinion really matters.
