Word of caution on installing the mag pick up, you need to silicone it in or something like that. I didnt want to deal with it so I sent my dist and parts to msd to do the R & R and while they had it they locked it out for me too since I run a crank trigger. Didnt cost much I think it was like 60 bucks or so.

I noticed the rusting inside my distributor when i freshened my mototr this winter. Had no drivability problems but thought all that rust couldnt be good. I emailed MSD with a picture of the inside of the distributor. They replied

    Dear Mike

To see rust in the distributor is normal. The rust will not affect the performance of the car. The solution is drill a hole in the side of the cap will prevent this from happening again. The size of hole is 5/32.

I carefully sanded the rust with an abrasive pad and applied a thin film of di-electric grease and put it back together. Seems to be o.k..Looks like the cap may be the problem. Good luck with your repair.

For a crank trigger, you really should have a hole on #1 so you can phase it properly.

    .

Don't pull anything, do a leak down 1st, and check the wires, plugs, ignition etc.

I meant I always drill the hole above number one.
    Just a habit I guess.
