    Beware of reproduction handles.
There have been a couple of threads in the past year or so where there were problems with fitment.

If they aren’t pitted badly, your originals can be rechromed.

Gotta watch the length, I believe the later years are longer by 1/4" and aftermarket replacements I think are the longer ones, so better to get originals re-chromed. Hopefully someone with a little more knowledge chimes in.

Had my originals rechromed after hearing alot of bad reviews about the aftermarkets , pretty sure they only cost me around $75 a piece and they look perfect.

I have a set, that I'm pretty sure they're original that I'd be willing to sell from my '71, I suspect they would need to be re-chromed but I honestly cant remember since I pulled them last winter. If you're interested I can pull them out of storage and take some pictures. I'm planning on doing the Kindigit smooth handles, so I won't be needing them.

grzewnicki had it a bit backwards. The 70-74 handles are wider than the 75-81 handles by about a 1/2 inch or so. The aftermarket handles are made like the later handles. The aftermarket handles do break I am told, but this could also be due to the door hinges being worn. When the hinges are worn, the door sags and you have to lift the door to open it which the handle was never designed to do. Even the GM replacements in the late 70's and 80's when they were made were like the later handles.

The later handles can be used, but you will have to file one of the openings in the door a bit wider as the pivot part is wider. This doesn't show once assembled.

If you decide the rechrome your originals, you may want to follow this guide:

    http://nastyz28.com/threads/1970-74-75-outside-door-handle-disassembly-restore.320197/

It depends on how anal you are.

The inner part is actually yellow di-chromate plated and not chrome plated.
