I just stripped my door hinges by dipping them in carb/parts cleaner, they came out great, but I have a question:

What are they made of? It LOOKS like stainless steel, but I am sure it's not. I am concerned about how to protect them from rust, but don't want to spray them and take a chance of gumming them up.

Does anyone have an idea how to protect the finish without painting them?

If you're talking about just the hinges, they are regular steel other than the bushing which are usually bronze. They are painted the body colour usually. The latch and striker are plated/coated steel.

Sorry, meant the latch. So, if plated steel, it should not rust, correct?
