Fires up and dies once key is released

Have a 1970 Camaro that has previously ran great. Then all of a sudden it died. Turn the key and the engine fires up, but as soon as i release the key it dies. Thinking something is killing the feed from the ignition switch to the distributor? Anyone got any ideas?

Does it still have the points ignition? With points ignition, you have two wires to the coil to power it. One is the "start" wire that gets power only during cranking, and the secone wire is the "run" wire that gets power any time the ignition switch is on.

GM used the resistance wire on the run side instead of a ballast resistor. The wire if it is still points is probably bad. A lot of people that switch to HEI or other Type never change that wire. It will still run an Electronic Distributor but the voltage will be reduced and not a full 12 volts. You can always install a ballast resistor like mopars had to fix. Running a regular wire will work but the higher voltage will burn the points in a short time. If it is HEI, That wire has to be changed to get full voltage to perform properly.

I'm running an Accel HEI Super Coil 14003, the ignition module is mounted on the fire wall.

It does have the HEI, I've upgraded all of the wiring from battery to ignition to starter, It has an Accel HEI Super Coil 14003. I haven't replaced the wires to it yet though. It was running like scalded dog and then zip.
