The aluminum body Ford F-150 has been in production for right at five years. Good idea or not? I remember reading a lot of negative comments about corrosion, repair cost for body damage, high insurance rates, and lack of strength. What is the verdict after five years?

I see them everywhere, all in pretty good shape albeit only 5 years old, but I dont see much paint issues or anything,. I do know on my mustangs (2015+) theres a real big issue that plagues a significant amount of owners, where the paint is bubbling off the hoods and parts of vehicle, not due to rust its aluminum, but corrosion. but most of them get it under warranty repainted.

I’ve got the 2015 F150 with no complaints about the aluminum bed. I fabricated a piece of plywood to cover the bed when I carry anything heavy just to be sure I don’t tear anything up.

That's probably a good idea.

You want the inside scoop? Go talk to a local reputable body shop about the construction of those things about what results they see from collisions of various forces of impact.

Recently spent a week driving a new F150 2 wheel drive crew cab with the ecoboost turbo V6. Wife drove it too. We both agree it had nothing on our 2012 Ram 1500, 2 wheel drive quad cab. The Ram is quieter, more powerful, rode better and was just more comfortable. I am a lifetime GM car/truck owner but when it comes time to replace my current Ram, another Ram will take it's place. And yes, spent a lot of time behind the wheel of various GMC and Chevrolet pickups from 2016 to 2020 and I won't be purchasing them either. That being said, with any luck I hope to add a 3rd Camaro to my stable, a 2021 2SS 1LE.
