Front Wheel Bearing Installation

I was searching for some detailed instructions for installing front wheel bearings. I have done it a bunch of times but I like to review procedures ahead of time, in particular how to tighten everything back up. I stumbled on this great write up from Timken on the process.

There's some pretty good videos on youtube on packing front bearings on a rear drive car, including some detailed instructions on "hand packing" grease into the bearings, which is much easier than any 'cone' method, IMHO of course.

Very good, simple write up. Nice to go over it after years of just going by feel.
I like hand packing too. I've tried some cone style packets, but they seem to waste alot of grease.

Hand packer here too! I like seeing where all the grease is going and be able to see how it is filling the bearings!

My cone style bearing packers work fantastic. Drop in the bearing, put upper cone on and give it a good solid push and boom...bearing greased with less messy hands. Although I will do the hand grease method if a bearing packer isn't available.

I just use a grease needle. Stick in inside the cage and give it a pump so the grease squeezes out between the rollers.
