I am fitting aftermarket outer wheelhouses, trunk drop offs and quarters on my 74. I have it all mocked up with sheetmetal screws other than the bottom of the rear quarter and wheel opening.

The one area I am stuck with is the match under the taillight. The drop off and quarter have a small lip that nest together and there is a mirrored lip on the inner valence. Currently there is a gap in a free state and I can flex the assembly in until these touch. Should they? Seems like they should and perhaps be welded together.

Here's some pics. Note that there is a portion of the outer valance/tail panel trimmed off to allow access to the area it is supposed to cover. The first is zoomed out to show the location, the second is zoomed in on the area in question.

The rear valance portion I have yet to weld in (needs to go last) would cover all this, I just don't remember how this was when I tore it apart over a year ago........

my 77 is on the other side of town right now but I remember that lip on the inner valance wasn't welded to anything.

I don't remember it welded either but it definitely looks like it needs to close in. Is there a measurement spec for the distance between the frame rail and the point of the lower rear quarter formed by the rear corner of the wheel opening?

Think I can get a couple people to grab this rough measurement from the side of the leaf to the point of the quarter? Both sides would be best.

Are you assuming everyone's lead springs are the same width? That may vary slightly as well as repo metal vs GM too.
