Has anyone had a detached garage built lately? I was looking at having a 16x22 detached garage built. Simple design. All siding. Unfinished. Slab and all came in at just over $100 a square foot. Seemed a little high to me.

As in that's what it should cost or that's what you paid?
Have you considered having someone come in to pour the slab, then have a prefab metal shop erected and anchored to it? I have friends who went this route and saved thousands vs stick built.

16K is what i was quoted. I did go a different route and built a 1000 foot square foot garage it added 10K to the price.
My extra 22X25' garage cost $17K back in 2006 I am sure the one the OP wants to do will be around 20K. If you can find a builder to do it on the side you can save some big bucks. Back in 1988 when I added on 20' to my old garage where I lived I got everything done for $2400. My how times have changed in building.
At $100 per square foot, as posted by the OP, that was over $35,000.00. (16x22=352 sq ft)
I built my old 30x40 back in 2006 for less than $30,000.00.
But lumber, siding, wiring, garage doors, windows and concrete pricing is just ridiculous right now due to the current inflationary policies of the past 15 months and the Ukrainian situation.
I just got pricing on the home I'm planning to build in Wisconsin and it's $450,000 over budget. I can afford to go somewhat over budget, but not $450,000.

Agreed. Also, the OP should receive recent info on pricing within the last three years or so. I think anything pre-covid is pretty much irrelevant and not helpful, nor even close to what the price will be today. Pricing (materials and labor) also differ by region. And now the cost of fuel . . .
