Well I hope GM builds a better V8 with no piston slapping, oil guzzling and long stretched out timing chain problems that seem to plague them in the past. If "WE" still want ICE the it's up to "US" to keep that going and as car people everywhere need to shove the electric crap up their hind ends as it takes more energy to build an electric car batteries than it will ever put out. Ask yourselves this, If electric cars are so good why then did GM cancel and force owners of the EV-1 electric cars to surrender them back in the day?

Maybe it's just me, usually is, but I keep reading about it being a gen6 small block. As far as I'm concerned there's only two generations of the small block, the first gen ran 45 years and then the current LS series second gen motors. I doubt the new engine coming out of the rebuilt factory will be much more than a revision of the LS that came out in 2000 or so. Not sure the marine cammer engine would be considered a small block either.

I think there is going to be a slowdown of the adoption of all electric vehicles. I believe they do have a place in society, but the technology is just not there yet. I'd much rather see hybrids taking over for the next dozen years until they can face all the hurdles of going all electric. My daughters boyfriend has a Tesla and they went to visit family about an hour and a half away. Evidently the batteries do not perform well in cold weather and on the ride home, they had to do without heat for about an hour and limp to a charging station at 1:00 am just to complete their 3 hour round trip.

Perhaps GM is looking forward and has this logic as well.

Regardless how you feel about the situation, GM considers these generations.
Everyone knows what a gen I and II are, Gen III was the first LS, Gen IV was ls2/ls3, GEN V is the current LT motors, gen VI will be whatever comes next
This current generation has been going on for 10 years
Gen VI can go on for another 10 years, just because there are plans to phase out ICE cars doesn't mean development on them has to stop, that phase out plan isn't going into effect until 2035 regardless. Nothing stops auto makers pairing these up with batteries to make hybrids to meet more rigorous fuel standards in the present either.

And I see GM is talking about a small EV truck to compete with the Ford Maverick. Could be interesting if affordable. IIRC the Maverick was supposed to be a $20k truck when introduced, sure went in another direction there.

The company that I work for took delivery of a new Maverick back last June. It`s been back to the dealership for 2 recalls, and at least 1 other issue. I`m not impressed. My normal vehicle is a new 2022 Ranger. Small truck that wants to be a big truck. Terrible ride quality, fair performance and fuel economy.

I really dont understand why anyone would buy a ford....
Of every single one I know... problems beyond problems. A buddy I work with has a 2018 super duty with a huge rain leakage problem from the back where the pressure vents are...
His son has a ford ranger with the 4.0 v6 that has timing chains in the rear next the bell housing.. he needs them replaced.(this is why I don't trust the 3.0 duramax).

My grandmother had her share of crap fords. Fix or repair daily couldn't be more accurate. My boss had an old f250 v10 that loved to go through exhaust gaskets and then exhaust studs that were rusted away.
They make some nice looking vehicles.. but definitely only a keep within the warranty period type of thing.

I've come to understand the final iteration of the classic sbc (iron head Vortec 5.0L / 305ci rpo L30 and 5.7L / 350ci rpo L31) are "officially" known as Gen Ie

and, that L31 5.7L Vortec Gen Ie remains in production as a new "replacement engine" via GM Powertrain.

fwiw, probably best cars I've had are a series of latest iteration of Lincoln Town Car with 4.6L sohc V8 "modular motor" --- Sadly, just this AM I surrendered a '99 LTC due to bad roadbed, torrential rains and hydroplaning --- totalled. Had just changed its O&F less than 100 miles ago and replaced battery in November 22. Large, Heavy, Solid car probably prevented more serious injury or my early demise. Great cars --- I'll be looking on CL for another --- final year for LTC is 2011.
