yup if I wanted to go thru the hassle, grit & grime, I could put a mirror finish on a chicom/indian turd.
No, wait --- that'll be their next offering. Perhaos I should get in the import business --- smitheee purveyors?

Have some Tramontina knives and tri-clad pans --- all but one is Brazil-made --- my lone chicom triclad is great as well. I just looked and see Tramontina also offers some cast iron, but I know nothing of it. I'll put my large brazil Chef knife up against any similar henkel --- easily takes an edge & holds it --- and paid less than $20 some 15-20 years ago. FWIW, Tramontina does have a super budget line of lite, non-stick chicom pots and pans as well --- they're oK but they are budget --- good value actually.

I'd not heard of Paderno until your post --- seems some Paderno is claimed to be Canadian-made --- although looks as though their Cast Iron is not Canadian --- I see a corporate link to your latest gig too --- maybe get a sweet deal on Paderno? Paderno looks to be quality stuff but you'll know if it is.

Yessir! Employee discount on top of whatever promotions are on. I have many Paderno pots and pans, they are top notch stainless. If their cast was Canadian or U.S, I would have bought it too.

Says "designed in Canada" online, and on the package itself in store, it says made in China. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I try to stay domestic where possible.

we have a glasstop stove so no cast iron for us. shame too, my mom gave me all her old cast iron when she quit using them. little did I know they are popular, I threw them on craigslist for 5 bucks each, first guy bought all 10 pieces.
I did keep the Dutch oven and hotplates. just recently bought a 10" lodge for 2 bucks at a yard sale. jim
Check stove company. I have been using cast iron on mine since I bought it--no scratches at all and so far so good for the last 2 years.

Lodge is AOK quality and surely USA made in Tennesse --- only gripe I have is the cooking surface is relatively rough which impedes seasoning-in to create that natural non-stick. Smithey surface is ground & polished --- but it costs an arm and a leg. Seems older/ heritage /vintage iron pans were manufactured with a smoother finish on cooking surface --- a better finish than what's typically found today.

don't know why cast iron can't be used on your glass cooktop --- so long as some reasonable care is employed --- cast iron works on my glasstop stove --- don't slide it, don't drop it, let it heat up pan slowly etc

I agree, it is rougher than I like. I have an old griswald(spelling) that is by far my favorite pan. Smooth bottom, a little oil right before an egg goes in and it does better than any non-stick I have used.
