Replacing crankshaft pulley on 78 Z28...to remove the center bolt (for the harmonic balancer) do I just use a wrench/socket to remove it or do I have to do something special? Is it counterclockwise to remove it?

Yep, remove as per normal direction (counter CW) and make sure it's tq'd back up again, around 65 lb/ft.

Yes crank bolt has to come out. See witness marks.

Thanks to all for the replies...COPO is correct on a sbc there is a large washer under the center bolt which has to be removed...that is how my crank pulley looks also.
Maybe you can also help me with another question...need to loosen the belt that goes to the power steering pump from the crank...I can see the obvious adjustment bolt but there must be other bolt(s) that need to also be loosened...can someone tell me where those are?

One more question guys on the harmonic balancer bolt removal...using a breaker bar with socket to try and remove the balancer bolt...it wants to turn the balancer/crank at the same time. Do I have to find a way to stop the balancer/crank from turning or should I use an impact wrench to remove the bolt? Thanks in advance...
