One of the old ways to check for a blown head gasket is to take the radiator cap off, crank engine, and watch for bubbles in the radiator.
Was it blowing a lot of white, sweet-smelling smoke out of the exhaust?
Somewhere, antifreeze is getting into the oil.
Hopefully it's an intake or head gasket and not a crack in the block somewhere.

Oreilly's will "loan" you a radiator pressure tester. Pump up the radiator, pull the spark plugs and let set over night. See where the coolant comes out past the head gasket.
Other test we did back in the day was take it out on the road and get the car up to about 40-45 mph and then let off the throttle and down shift to either 1st or 2nd gear so you create a super high vacuum in the engine that pulls coolant into the cylinder and past the hot exhaust valve creating the white exhaust listed above.
Could it be as simple as a really cold thermostat not getting the engine up to temp?

Yea white smoke was coming from the bay and the pipes, it was bad.

Been here done this...
Yep, may be time to pull heads, check the intake gaskets first.
Or a rotted hole in the head valve area like I had during start up with plain water.

So I pulled my heads, gaskets looked ok. Turns out the cam was broke in wrong, 4 lifters were completely destroyed and cam lobes were wiped. Probably metal shavings in my pan, haven’t gotten there yet. It sucks cause it literally is a month old cam. Do I need a another engine at this point?
