Help with 72 LS-3 alternator bracket

    Is that the original alternator? I thought GM switched to internal regulator in '72? Terminals look like external regulator. My 71 LS-3 setup looks the same as far as the brackets are concerned.

    Greg, I notice that you don't have the bracket bolted to the back of the alternator that is supported by the spacer bolt ( see Dave's pic of it). Also, how long is that spacer? Everything on my L34 is the same as Dave's pics, but were things a bit different in 1972?

    My bracket on the back is different than Dave's, and that's the issue. I ended up cutting off a little bit to bring it in tighter to the head. It actually ended up being the thickness of the head of the stud where it meets the head. The car was apart when I got it, and I did get a rebuilt alternator years ago.

    72 still has the external regulator, 73 was when it changed over.
