I have a very original 81Z with 67,000kilomters about 40k miles. took out the original 350/350 and put a 383 700R combo in. I'm trying to find an aftermarket air cleaner that will clear the hood with out cutting the original panel beneath the vowel induction scoop. the motor has a Performer RPM and Quick fuel Slayer series carb with out any spacers. Currently running an Edelbrock triangular mesh air cleaner but it too rubs on the hood panel. Thought about buying another hood to cut but not sure about paint matching the 40 years old gold.

As G72ZED stated in another thread ...

"The L88/LT1 drop base comes in at 2". You can get this at Corvette Depot in Windsor Ontario, part# 1005806. I tested a dozen or so bases, tops and such, some where custom fabricated, and a few specialty ones used, some worked, some did not.

And much like a cylinder head intake runner, SHAPE is a dominate and a key factor in this area. Here's a pic of an L88 base I was working on the last time. GM got this right!!!"
