HOW to Convert shifter 700R

I presently Have a 1973 "Factory" th350 Ratchet shifter. ( push the button, hit forward ) and it goes to second, push button goes to 3rd and so on. I installed a 700R Trans. HOW do I "Alter" this shifter to work as a 700 4 speed shifter? ( the only things I have found are different plates, but they seem to work backwards (push button and pull back. if I have it in 1st and move forward (without using the button ,it will go all the way to neutral instead of stopping at the next gear). anyone done this alteration ?? If there already Is a thread o this, can you please post a link to it ?

The video on that site shows a 79-81 shifter but the process is the same, except for the shift indicator lens.
