I hit someone today

I think it was just a very lucky situation for the man and for me. I'm not worried about being sued. I'm not worried about leaving the scene of an accident. I'm not worried about litigation, again, because I was legally justified here in N.C. even if he was injured much worse. This isn't New York-for example only.

However, for the sake of not being pompous or self-righteous, I do pray that nothing else's comes of it, but more importantly I hope the gentleman is ok.

Now, there are many other situations where I would be very concerned about those things. (Litigation by a family or whatever). However, in my best judgement this is not one of those cases.

The man, nor the police or anyone on the scene even took or know my information. The state trooper told me after me repeatedly asking that I was ok to leave without providing anything. I know his name, badge number and patrol car number.

I do appreciate al of the input.

Again, I'm just thankful everyone was ok and lived to see another day. I would give all of my material belongings away gladly if that is what was necessary for the man to be safe. My days in the Marine corps makes me appreciate life, for everyone.

And I'll be the first to thank you for your service. I look up to Marines even though I'm a Canadian across the border.

Earth......?
You did everything absolutely right. Like you said, don't worry about being sued.
Just as a side note, what are the statues of limitations when someone wants to sue for personal injury in your neck of the woods?
Its 2 years here.

Glad to hear you are ok. I had a fender bender with my beater with some girl in a parking lot crossing in front of me. I made sure she had ins. and finally she showed me she did. Neither of us saw each other so it was a 50-50 deal. A scrape on my bumper and a slight crinkle in my RF fender but you would never know by looking at my car it was in an accident, if she didn't have any ins. then I would have filed a claim. Gotta be careful out there these days, Mr. Mayhem is everywhere.

My days as a truck driver taught me to give anyone on the side of the road an EXTREMELY wide birth. I move to the left as far as I can or stop for oncoming traffic.
Exactly what I did. But he ran last second in front of me. I typically stay to the inside of the lane anyway due to debris usually being on the right side.

Doesn't matter what anyone said or what their actions afterward were....even the cops.
Fact is....Unless there's more or less to this story.... is that you hit a pedestrian.
No state jurisdiction or amount of right wrong is going to stop the big hammer from falling on your head.
Rally all the troops and tell how you were in the right, blah, blah. It won't matter.
I bet he's under PI care and PI counsel already, but it really takes about 3 months for this headache to start.
