Here is my thought.....replaced all my bulbs with 194. It is so cool to see complete dash lit, but still on the dim side I considered 168’s but told they run hotter—don’t know if it’s hot enough to do damage. So I’m thinking of LED, which may be too bright, but dimmer switch works—so why not go that route—if to bright, I can adjust
Use LEDs. They aren't too bright. And they are very inexpensive now. (When they first came out with these, they were a $4-5 EACH!) The signal light indicators on the 79-81 models definitely need brighter lights. They are almost impossible to see in daylight with the factory incandescent bulbs. I used this style for the background lighting: https://www.ebay.com/itm/10-x-White...156471?hash=item5217a74537:g:BxIAAOSw-QxcVNPd An LED which focuses the light straight ahead will work best for the signal indicators: https://www.ebay.com/itm/10Pcs-T10-...795072?hash=item1cb0c527c0:g:My0AAOSwSCZbOYvY Leave the incandescent bulbs in the brake, oil warning lights and hi-beam indicator. LEDs are obnoxiously bright in those (especially the hi-beam indicator). The ones I linked for background lighting also work well for the windshield wiper switch, seat belt warning and A/C -Heat control panel. Test the cluster before you re-install it in your dash. The LEDs only work one way. (Polarized circuit) If one doesn't light, flip the socket around in the cluster. Good Luck!
Did complete changeover to led—looks super nice. Except, the last turn signal is dim. It’s not the bulb, we changed and tested twice with housing off. Weird
