I have 81 Z28. Car has a total Kwik Wire harness from front to back top to bottom. Problem is the person that was hired to do job died before completion. Most things seems to be working as they should but I'm wondering I can not seem to locate the ground wire for the instrument cluster. I'm fairly certain there should be, surly if there's not one I could one one but where would a safe to put one. My email: [email protected] Thanks

The ground is handled through the cluster plug.
It's the black one in the corner.

It doesn't matter whether it's an "idiot light" cluster of gauges... The ground wire is in the same place.

    What circuits don't work?

they all appear to be working just not sure if properly especially temp gauge. Have flushed rad, prestone 50/50 mix, high flow 180 stant thermostat water pump has a 4 row aluminum rad with dual elec cooling fans replaced temp gauge sensor today. Drive 3-5 miles gauage almost in the red. The car has no factory wiring left in it all KWIK wire

Sounds like a potential mismatch between your gauge and sending unit.

Is it a factory gauge cluster?
If so... What year car is the temp gauge? (There were different sending units used through the 2nd gen years.)

Have you confirmed with an infrared temp reader that your engine is getting that hot?

factory gauge cluster, not sure its the original factory gauge when I bought the car. Same gauge when I had a different engine in the car, when I restored the first time. No infrared.guess I could buy one approx cost or you suggest a brand.

The temp guns are probably all made in China so I don't know what brand would be good.

You can get a temp gun at your local Harbor Freight store for about $20-25.

Are the fans on a temp sensor switch so they turn on at a desired temp? If so, are they kicking on? And if that's the case - are they turning/oriented the right direction?
