Intake height. Edelbrock vs Stock?

Hey,

I pulled my stock quadrajet and intake from my 76 Camaro LM1 350, and installed the 2101 Edelbrock performer and Edelbrock 1906 AVS2 carb. I'm having issues with my air cleaner and hood clearance. I've changed to a stock 80 Z28 and air cleaner setup with the air induction hood I have all the proper parts, but the intake and carb are high. The carb measures the same height as the original quadrajet. It's hard to measure the height of the installed 2101. Thant's why I'm asking. Is the 2101 performer than my stock intake? Thanks,

Geno
14x2 rather than a 14x3 air filter will fix the problem. Here is a link to purchase one at Jegs:

Thanks for the tire info and the pics, Geno. Still have not found an air cleaner to fit my situation, but am closing on a Spectre custom setup.
dunno your situation --- but has your search also included Circle Track suppliers such as All Star Performance?
Their primary air cleaner business is spun aluminum bases and lids --- AND that includes both bases with centered openings AND those with an offset.
Sometimes, an offset base is just what's needed --- other times, not at all --- just sayin'

fwiw, ASP's market segment is go; not show.

Tired of trying to find an air cleaner to fit under my hood. Tried 3 so far. Also messing with me is the Holley billet throttle bracket.
I've ordered a Spectre dual 4"intake plenum (#9824) (sits only 1.9" above carb flange) will pair that with two 4" hoses and a pair of 4" cone filters to create a cold air intake setup. Will tuck the filters into the corners of the front fenders behind the headlights, should be plenty of cool air there. Battery is already in the trunk, and no evaporative canister to deal with on the driver side, so lots of room on both sides. Will post pics when I've got it setup.

Not a Camaro, but I gave up trying to find something to work, so I made my own. Drop offset base, offset stud and made the housing to conform to the cowl hood. On a cool night you can see the path of the air with the condensation on the hood . I think it works well. Seal is the trunk aperture weather strip. May not be pretty, but I was looking for function over form.

I mean you can, thought I’ve heard of it, causing problems with carburetors where if you remove the structure out of the middle of the intake the carburetors internal gaskets will leak Because they don’t have a good base to clamp down on to.

But I have never personally seen it be an issue, and I think it’s highly unlikely to happen.

I assume you have a Quadrajet carburetor, those are good carburetors. You won’t see any performance gain from cutting those dividers out. If I was you, I just leave it alone.

I’ve also heard a lot of conflicting arguments about whether the intake runners should be separate or tied together side to side, they make manifolds both ways. I just think it doesn’t really matter on 99% of engines.
