I dont know about that 60K folks.... Why if this RS car is selling at $60k doesn't it have the correct instrument cluster with the 7k tach?
As mallard said, it wasn't ordered with RPO U14. The full cluster was not a forced option on any cars in 1970.

As was this RS, the same would hold true for a Z28. If you didn't check the U14 box when ordering, you got a car with the standard cluster (Speedometer and fuel with warning lights). Being a Z28 didn't mean it automatically came with the 150/8K cluster.

I did not know this...are there any examples without gauges out there?

Sure, but you'll have to do a little google-mining to find them. There might even be a member here with one. Just start looking at pictures of Z28s and check the interior shots. I've personally seen a 1970 z28 with a column shift and dummy gauges. I would have never ordered one like that, but someone back then trying to cut corners and go on the cheap might.

Note: Through the years MANY of the non-gauge cars were converted to U14 clusters, so you may be searching a bit - but if you're persistent enough, you'll find one or two out there.

Oh, and if you wanted a console, you'd have to check that box too. If you didn't then the 4 speed cars got the floor mounted shifter and automatics got a column shifter.

Now that you show that, and I -re-rattle my old memory, I believe the car I saw with the dummy gauges and column shifter was an SS 396 car, and not a Z28.

Thanks for the illustration and correction. 👍

If memory serves, the “no gauges” possibility for a z28 didn’t start until ‘73? I know for sure it was possible in’74.

I'm not sure when the idiot lights started for a Z28, but my 73Z originally came with them. One of the things I had to correct. I've never understood why someone would buy a performance car without gauges.

EDIT: Fixed a term and grammar.
