Well, I will differ with you on that as Vortec intake port is nothing more than a raised runner head. The chamber and the spark plug being closer to the center is the reason for the 32° timing and some porting will not hurt the head at all. With the set I did in 2019 they performed better than my friends AFR 195 heads did, now that's saying something for GM production heads.
I'm OK with agreeing to disagree.

Ya Sportsman II's were nothing to write home about out of the box. Mine were not good until I ported them. I did manage to get 10.80's out of them after that, but the 170cc Vortec's that ran 10.90's was more impressive with less work and smaller valves.

Yep......I call those older Sportsman II's the "Rodney Dangerfield" of cylinder heads LOL.

One of the worst heads OOTB, then, once properly ported and sized for the application, one of the best power producing casting for the day, and still decades later.......

I still have mine, will never sell them, that's for sure, but who would want old iron heads from 1991 LOL

I know eh!!! showing my age. They flowed 240 @ .400 and 263 cfm @ .500. All through the 2.02 valve, good enough for 540hp on my 327.

I like it that engines don't car about the year of the cylinder heads, or if they are iron or aluminum LOL.

Now off to the dyno for testing a 10.6 ish cr pump gas 379.66 cube SBC.

Should run well, solid roller/Profiler ported heads/Wilson ported SV, custom carb by moi, T&D shafts.

Might have to much cam, not enough squeeze, to much port volume, the "lie detector" will tell us LOL.
