We have Fisher body manuals and reproduction assembly manuals, is there an equivalent for engines? For example, an assembly manual for motors that included exploded diagrams and part numbers for each component, such as head bolts, cam bearings, etc. The reproduced vehicle assembly manual does not contain a great deal of detail for the engines.

I think that would be interesting actually. Stuff like those 0.0005 OS bearings that are sometimes used on crankshafts. Before the current day robotic assembly.

I agree. There are things I just cannot find part numbers for such as the correct spark plug wire retainer brackets for a 1979 Z28.

The closest thing you are looking for would be a gm service manual the same year, no parts numbers. Part numbers won't help from a second Gen no way.

That would have to be the most expensive SBC in history trying to build one hunting down all NOS parts.

A service manual is for service. Look for a Chassis overhaul manual.

Interestingly, for 1979 there is a chassis service manual that, as 1320feet states, is for minor service and repair. In the introduction of that book, it reference a Chassis Overhaul Manual. However, I can find no record of this book for 1979. There is a Unit Repair Manual, but that does not include the engine as a repair unit.
