The add says Ram Air air cleaner, this is what one actually looks like for the Formula cars

I'm not a Trans Am guy but if that air cleaner is specific to 1972 ram air cars it's very hard to come by and a reasonable price.. 1972 was a very low production year for Trans Ams and Z28's due to the strike that ended 1972 production 4 months early in April.

I think the other guys are saying you're stupid? Just kidding. I used to think the same thing when I saw some of these prices. Stuff people used to throw away and put on some aftermarket piece of trash just because they saw it in Car Craft, Hot Rod or similar.
If I had a 72 Trans Am and everything else was letter perfect stock appearing this may be the catch of the day for me. Craigslist is sometimes much cheaper than ebay or Hemmings or going to swap meets. Times change and the fully restored cars are bringing good coin these days. The first thing you see when you pop the hood is the air cleaner and a "Ram Air" system without the right parts is not going to make the sale any easier.

My buddy with the "it will never be finished" '71 T/A goes crazy when it comes to that stuff. Pontiac parts are expensive as heck, and people will pay. I'm glad I have a Camaro.

    Alright.

I don't get it. $800 can get me a lot of go fast parts.

that is a fair price, like others have mentioned 72 was a low production year because of the strike. being a former 2nd gen 402 BB car owner I can assure you these pieces are stupid and owners with #s matching cars are glad to pay stupid prices to keep their cars correct and worth the most money.

    cars like this :https://wyoming.craigslist.org/cto/5402041338.html
are why those bits are high dollar

Seems reasonable for a rare part that appears pristine .

A lot of more common MINT condition air cleaners are in the 400.00 range ...all the way to 1600.00 I ve seen some rare corvette stuff.

I'd pay it if I needed to restore a premium nice car.
