I lost interest in nascar over 20 years ago. When they went to the cookie cutter bodies I was done.
"Show room stock" and even "Rally" racing just doesn't get shown here. The old sage "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday" is long forgotten. F1 is big in Britain and Europe but I can't remember the last time I saw it shown here.
It was a ban on corporate support of racing and or promoting racing.
This is from this article - that is really a good read.
GM was so sensitive to anything relating to racing that GM forced Pontiac to pull this ad created by Jim Wangers:
Why did they have to pull it? In case you don't know - Woodward Ave was the Mecca for street racing back in the 60's. They now hold the Woodward Ave "Dream Cruise" on the same route they used to race on...
this is EXACTLY what happens at small dirt tracks every week all over the country
my local track Eriez Speedway gets THOUSANDS of fans on a good Sunday night
last year I saw Tony Stewart race in his sprint car....it's always awesome
Except they don't....
There is absolutely nothing "stock" about a dirt track "stock" car at your local track. And you know that.
Now don't get me wrong - I'm a big fan of dirt track racing. But a dirt track late model stock car uses none of the factory sheet metal, has a race chassis, racing suspension, a highly modified race engine that transfers the power to the rear end via a racing transmission.
You mention Tony Stewart running a sprint car (photo from your famed "Eriez" speedway)...
People complain that NASCAR cars don't look enough like the production models. Have you ever seen a street car from the factory look remotely like this?
Now look at one of Tony's Cup cars - now that at least looks somewhat like a factory car.
you are 100% wrong
Eriez has both a weekly Street Stock and a Challenger class
Street Stocks are mostly old Monte Carlos and Camaro front clip cars, with some Impalas, Caprices and Thunderbirds
Challengers are FWD beaters that just go out there and have fun
Too many commercials, too many high profile drivers retiring, too many buffoons in the booth, too many gimmicks, too many rule changes too many times, too many cars look the same, too many cookie cutter tracks, too much aero-dependence, too many martinis for Brainless France, too many penalties, too many caution flags, too many boring races, and too many wasted Sunday afternoons.
Other than that, it's a great show. LOL
Disney corporation possibly new owners of NASCAR in 2019 , also may buy FOX Sports
My god when are the Waltrips going to just give it up? Darryl is an idiot, and sooo far out of touch with the cars they run today. I am so tired of hearing "ya know, back in the day we used hand signals" Stop. stop, stop, stop. STFU. And Michael is a idiot. not funny.
Funny? Clint Bowyer. i get a kick out of that guy.
Another time at a plate race, when he was clearly running poorly, under a red flag, in his interview he said "yeah i threw the block on Kyle for last place". Dudes funny.
