Anyone in business should expect employees to run off when something better/more secure comes along.

And, this is fact.....everyone is replaceable.

If these are the house rules, no exceptions, how can ANYONE have an honest conversation with you about even considering other employment?

What is an acceptable way for a person to say they are quitting? Keep in mind that telling an employer that you are quitting can be a very stressful thing.

Some people just get bored of working at the same place for twenty years...or even a few years and simply desire change. Nothing wrong with that and you cannot knock them for it. That's probably why she didn't ask for more money from you or different hours....she wasn't after anything other than change.

Don't punish the other employee that had "skin" in the game. that's wrong and I'm pretty certain illegal. :)

sorry, but I'd say C-ya too. Our policy is 2 weeks notice. Give them the 2 weeks and they escort you out the door. People just quit without notice because they know what will happen, and then the company complains. Piss-poor policy. Loyalty? I think not. Loyalty goes both ways, ya' know. I'd F you too. *don't take it personally*
