Anyone done this swap? I'm thinking about putting a 6 litre into my 79 z with the factory T10. and any help would be appreciated.
Its pretty easy.... You will need a extended pilot bushing for your input shaft to ride in the back of the crank properly. Your bell housing will bolt right up, you just wont be able to use one of the bolts.... no biggie. You will have to fab or buy a bracket for your pivot ball for the bell crank, the block has no provision for this. Or you can convert to hydraulic clutch which isnt hard to do either. Im pretty sure the Edelbrock adapter plates will put the motor right where you need it so you dont have to move your trans.
No, sorry. I dont have any pics. But Im doing a LS2/TKO 600 in my wifes 67 camaro convertible and this how Im doing it. Its basically the same for you using your T10. I think Im going to go with a hydraulic clutch on hers to avoid any header clearance issues.
What 71 RS said above will work! I personally dont like the clutch setup in these. The LS1 T56 can be used with a adapter plate that you bolt to the front of the trans, which allows you to bolt your original 4-speed bell housing to that, then its the same as in my first post.
thank thank s blackl78 and 71rs i have a 80 soild black 4speed z28 number match car but the 81 4 speed is not # match so time to make the 81 fun to ride in the interstate and get some gas miles too
Do the LS Engines share the same bolt pattern on the crankshaft for the flywheels/flexplates? I thought I read they were different.
