Nice...any reason why you didn't go with a 245/45-17 front?

When we first built the car, we had put 245/50/16's (25.7") on all 4 corners with the old wheels 16x8" with 5" BS. The fronts were so tight I never even attempted to drive it and went with 225/50's (24.7") on the front.

I worked with Shawn at Newstalgia Wheel - we both agreed that 235/45/17's (25.3") were the "safe" size to go with considering we have the Eibach lowering springs up front. I needed to go safe because we were ordering the tires through the Continental Employee Purchase plan (our grandson works for them). If I had been purchasing through a local tire shop - I would have had them have both sizes in stock and tried the 245's (25.7") first.

The 235's are .6" taller than the 225/50/16's and fill the wheel well nicely. Do I think that the extra .25" of BS on the new wheels might have worked to run the taller wider 245/45's? They very well may have with the extra .25" of BS on the Win Lites.

But we're happy with the results - and the fact that the tires were only $370.00 including the shipping charges.

I forgot to thank Terry (Twisted Metal) for doing the photo shop of our car with these rims. Mrs. Champ is a very visual person - she needed to see the rims on the car to make sure she liked them.

One look and she said "order 'em"...

To the best of my knowledge - this is a fairly new style. I had looked at Newstalgia Wheels offerings frequently over the last three years for a wheel that Mrs. Champ would like.

She hates the traditional 5 spoke rim and she wanted something with black to compliment her powdercoated bumpers and trim. Back in late February I looked again because I really wanted to get the new wheels before the Iola Old Car show and the Win Lites were on the Newstalgia website right next to the Street Lite Blacks for the first time.

We had seen the wheels above 3 years ago at Back to the 50's at the MN State Fairgrounds - it was the one that came closest to consideration - but she still didn't like them enough to pull the trigger.

Was talking to the guys at Newstalgia Wheel yesterday - checking to see if they had different centers available (Mrs. Champ would rather not have the centers say "Billet Specialties").

Learned that our order was their first sale of the new Win Lites.

This is the part where I start rolling fenders and cut if I absolutely have to, lol. I dropped my car another 1-1/2" in the front, got the jack out, and started jacking up opposite corners while checking clearance. I trimmed a little out of the front tub and rolled the lip in underneath. The price to pay for vanity, but there is absolutely no way the tire will rub anything in the front - no matter how hard I drive it.
