My new 71 arrived today!

What if in 1971 Chevrolet offered one more option for the Camaro, you could order a Z/28 with the Corvette BB 454. This is my Z/28 clone with a 454. Tremic 5 speed, AC car.

40 years ago we sold our '71 placer gold Z/28 when we had our first son. 40 years of saying, "we HAD one of those!", to now able to say, "we HAVE one!" Always looking for another gold '71 and found this one. Only change is putting on the full front bumper as I'm not a fan of the non RS car with split bumpers. 18" wheel setup in the near future checking ride height. David

Very nice looking car. Same color as my 71Z. I didn’t think factory air conditioning was available on a Z28 in 71. I added Vintage air to my 71

It wasn't. No Z/28 early 2nd gens came with air. My 71 also Z/28 had no air, this is a Z28/Clone/Z28/retromod Camaro.

No Z/28 early 2nd gens came with air.

First, that's a sweet looking car. Congrats! The gold with the black stripes really pops. 454, 5-speed, and AC is what I'd really like to do with my 71 base. Maybe even that color, too. You're going to have a lot of well-deserved fun.

The 73 and 74Zs actually came with AC. From what I understand, it had to do with the switch from the LT1 and solid lifters to the SHP (L82) and hydraulic lifters. You could even get a 4-speed with AC, but that changed the gear from 3.73 to 3.42 (the standard gear for a Z28 with auto). That was the case in 73 for the gears if you had AC. For 74, I can only guess it was the same as the motor was basically the same as 73.
