New Here, 1981 Camaro Z28

Hello,
I am new to this site and have a 1981 Z28 and live in Michigan. My car is complete but I would like to make it as original as possible. It was built in Van Nuys in June. It is a 305 LG4/Z28 engine suffix is DHZ with manual trans. The motor, carb, and trans are all original and have correct numbers on them. The rear end is different and would like to find an original rear end which I think is a PY code. Any help to find parts and where to look would be very helpful.

Welcome to the group. Very nice looking Z28. I don’t know about others but when I was putting my car back together I bought lots of parts off of fleabay.

The "PY" code should be correct for the rear of your car.
What do you have now?

Correct rear end should be either PE or PY. What do you have?

I don’t know the reared that is in it but it has disc brakes on it and 10 bolt. Not correct to the car from the info I seen on this web sight. The correct reared should be PY.

PE is non posi and PY is with posi. Locking is posi. Hopefully the guy ordered Posi if you have paperwork with your car. Otherwise get posi. I always ordered posi on my 77, 78 and 80 Z28’s with 4 speed of course.

According to this web sight and the vin on my car it is a PY rear end. It has a disc brake rear end now and want it as original as possible. All numbers match engine, carb, and trans. Rear is not correct so that is what I would like to change. Other than that just fine tuning to be as original as possible. Looking for horn and carpet and sticker kit as this car did not come with the blue stripes it is supposed to come with charcoal as it has black interior also correct with the body tag.
