This is my counsel. I believe that this is a US car from the vin.
The VIN shows it's an 81 which was BUILT in the US. (All 81 Camaros were built in the US.)

If it was built for export to Canada... I believe it would also have a metric speedometer.

Strange they put a "Check Engine" light in the dash which wasn't connected to the (non-existent) computer?

Yes. My 81 came with metric speedo.

Camaro’s came with Metric speedo’s when shipped to Canada starting in 1978. All 3 of mine came from Norwood.

Your car is unique. I recall all 4 speed Z28 all had 305s. All the 350s are autos in the states. Since you got a 350, it drive the auto trans rear axle ratio. Being a Canada car, different rules?
1981 Canadian Z28 had the 350 with the BW ST 10 available, it was basically a carry over from the 1980 it also had no CCC all that because Canadian emissions regulations were not change that year, all the cars cosmetics were of 1981, but the guts were a duplicate of 1980.

Regarding a conversation back to original from a 4 wheel disc set up, it is worth mentioning that if the disc brake installation was done properly, some other parts will have to be changed back also, parking brake cables, ( the two rear sections) brake booster, brake reservoir, proportioning valve, and brake pedal, there might be a few other small stuff that my memory is not recalling. Just make sure all the brake system components are the proper one for a front disc/ rear drum system.

Usually eastern Canada Camaros came from Norwood Ohio. Why would a dealer pay shipping from California instead of Ohio is my Q.
There’s a British Columbia car (from new) that was discussed on this board that came from Norwood which is nearly twice the distance vs Van Nuys. Go figure some of this stuff.

My car was built in Van Nuys. It is not a Canada car and I believe it is all original from the numbers I am finding.
