Oil based rust paint

Here in Canada rust paint (tremclad brand Canadian version of rustoleum) is allowed to be oil based because it's considered a specialty paint from what I've read. (Not sure if it's oil based in the states also). 2 summers ago when changing my leaf springs I painted under the brackets using it and it dried really hard and has held up well. My question is would I be able to paint the whole underside of my car after cleaning off all the old undercoat? Do I need to worry about a flash point of the paint cause of the exhaust system or would that not be hot enough. Alot of guys will recommend POR15 but tremclad paint is not costly and would be very easy to touch up over time and my car is a driver. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

I've used Rustoleum on the bottom of my hot rod projects and it held up well. No issues with exhaust heat. I use the semi-gloss black paint.

Just did a bit of an internet search on rustoleum seems it is oil based. Thanks for giving me your input and experience with it. I think I'll go with it.

Probably the best thing I've found for surface rust is Rustoleum aluminum. Then I recoat with some flat or semi-gloss black. That aluminum seems to soak into the rust much better than any other paint. Really good for floor and truck pans. I tried the POR stuff and after a couple years it started peeling off like tape. The POR marine clean is really good for the first stage cleaning. And the Rustoleum paints are quite a bit cheaper than some of the specialty paints.

POR15 is self leveling when brushed on. Has anyone ever used tremclad or rustoleum brushed on from a can? Does it level out or is there brush strokes in the finish?

Rustoleum Rusty Metal primer is a red oxide paint. I did the factory locations on my car and clearcoated with satin clear. Factory Fresh looking!

I used por-15 on my Camaro. Por-15 needs a slightly rough surface to stick, if smooth por-15 will spread out like oil on water. Por-15 metal prep is needed to solve this problem. I like por-15 better than tremclad. Tremclad does not level out as well as por-15.
