This Christmas will be the last full day we spend with our son for some time. Tomorrow, on his 21st birthday, he will leave for Texas. His mother and I miss him already. Please say a prayer for him and all the other kids that are away from home serving this nation this holiday season.

I joined back in Nov 76, went to basic, came home for Christmas then, I left on the same day (the day after Christmas) to go to Keelser AFB.
I still remember that Christmas with my family, it was a good time.
Good luck to him, remember Basic is all a head game :)
I just retired this past August

Air Force basic training is the easiest, and shortest of all the services and the most lax.

    He'll be fine.

Has he graduated or had any college?

If not, have him get with the base education office at his first assignment. He can get a lot of edumacation fer free! :D

Thank you all for your encouragement and well wishes. I will pass them along.

He plans on doing just that. He wants to make the most of his time there and possibly a military career.

Not transferring straight to active duty when I was mobilized last was one of the biggest regrets of my military career. But at the same time, everything happens for a reason.
