I hang around a lot lately on the Ls1tech.com Transmission forum. It is hard to find any kind words there about the 6L80E especially because of its stump-pulling 4.02 1st gear ratio. It seems to be well suited for very heavy vehicles, e.g. SUV, that need that 1st gear to get going. Then 2nd gear is a huge drop to a 2.36 ratio which kills any drag strip performance unless you have a 4000+ rpm stall. I don't personally have any experience with the 6L80E, just summarizing what I read on Ls1tech.

Note that people on Ls1tech do like the TCI 6-speed auto which is NOT a 6L80E, but instead a custom 4L80E with 6 speeds. Just very pricey.

Here is a good thread on Ls1tech:

I knew that. This is the closest to completion I can find. Subframe will be back from powdercoater this weekend so I should know soon. Just looking for comparisons.

First of all, I do not resemble a fruit, and the clearance issue is solved by using an STS or modified G8 oil pan. This is a 1st Gen Camaro 6L90 swap.

"Last, and hardly least, is the 6L80/90 which offers the best all around compromise. Second best rating of maintaining RPM levels, highest first gear torque multiplication, gear to gear clutch handoff, an extra stepped forward gear, AND a top gear that multiplies torque 15% greater (1.00 vs 1.15)...and depending on variation...highest torque capacity."

Apparently it can handle 1000 HP with mods.

I feel the OPs pain. Back in 2012 when this post was initiated, there really wasn't too many "direct" bolt-on swap parts. I did my first LS conversion about 2012 and all the swap parts were garage mechanic creations and I had to get my factory crossmember modified (I think BRP was the only one). Now here we are 7 years later...you can find basically anything and made by at least a few different companies. Heck you can even buy stuff for Nissans and Fords now.
