I think the only way you will truly get your answer is to build it and find out. If you were closer to me, I would dyno it for free!!!

We could start the test at 6,000 and run it to 9,000 at 400 rpm per second, it would only be a 7.5 second run anyway, easy peasy, then you would get your answers.

If anything would vacate the crankcase, there would only be a small cleanup fee and hazardous waste disposal charge, additional fee for metal/aluminum fragments. Could be a lot less expensive for you compared to a true drag strip, and maybe for the guy in the next lane as well.
Dude I would love free dyno. I mean it wouldn't be free (I'd buy beer/seltzer/whatever.) I do have a playground and I am for sure one for experimenting.

Bring a mop. :)

I was there when we tested a 572 Hemi, testing started at 5,300 rpm, ended around 7,500+ or so....made 1,000 HP with the old cross ram and 700 Holley's.

I was also there and saw a "Bonneville" record holder.......I won't comment on HP or RPM, but in both cases, no mops where used. Then again, there valve trains cost more than most complete new engines LOL.

Unfortunately the old lady is running out. She's also quite angry that I haven't gotten her a vintage vehicle (hence the thread) when I have like 4? I guess we'll call it 3. I don't consider a 2000 vintage. Unless it's the GT40 I saw for sale today. I'm not really a Ford guy but they are nice and yes I
Sh!t myself when I saw two thirds of a million

I'm in in the market for a 67 impala 4 door. I know. It ain't happening yes it must be a 67 and yes it must be an impala (although i believe the bel airs and caprices are similar). I am not afraid of rot but something with body panels under 5 grand for a car would be nice. I am quite aware that there are no repro body panels for these.

Just wanted to shove a solid, screaming motor in it for her.

She's gonna hate it and that's awesome because it will be a really nice family cruiser with plenty of ass for me to drive.

I have the same dynamic going on at my house. I collect motorcycles like stray cats, plus the Z, snowmobile, my old cop car, truck, a bunch of old Westinghouse kick start motors, 3 small blocks on stands and an LS she doesn't know about. Yet.

That's why I've gotten into big blocks. What's that? Uh it's a 350 but everyone says it sucks so I'll trade it. Yeah I'll trade it. Into one of my cars. Had to talk myself out of one of the factory vortec 8100s the other day. It was $500 bucks. Guarantee I could have taken it home for $350.

The 502 would be a nice catch for sure. I just bought another LS today. Gen 4 5.3 with all accessories, harness and ecm. 400 bucks.
Wife badly wants a 50's pickup...

Here's my thoughts on this. Weight of car and traction play a big part in when it will blow and what blows also. It's going to have a 'fusible' link somewhere.

Back in the early 80s I had a 350 that I brought up to 10,000 rpms more times than was good for it. 8k a lot. But i was young with a size 12 foot. Approx 450-500 hp guessing. After about 1.5 yrs the rings finally gave out after an extended run rpms topped at about 8000 rpms. 67 camaro, 350 two bolt, flat tops, balanced, 850 holley, df/dp, double hump 2.02, dual valve springs, accel racing II dual point until i went hei, msd, Victor jr, 3.92 gears, th350, and NO traction whatsoever 60s. IF I had gotten traction the fusible link would have shown up somewhere and I think it would be the rods.

The odd thing was I never knew what the cam was til I tore it apart as I bought the car with the long block for $1000. It worked with everything i threw on it and money was tight. Checked part numbers and it was a hydraulic cam with solid lifters. Strange but true. Had to idle high. Someone could have reground a hyd... didn't lope a lot.

So I know for a fact a balanced 350 two bolt will go 10k often and not grenade. NO TRACTION. I would not be that crazy today.
