Quality Mechanical Fuel Pump

I'm using an Edelbrock Victor on my new 383. Seems to be much better quality than similar current Holley pumps.
I have a brand new Baker Pro-Cam pump and ARP pushrod that wont fit F-body subframes. May work on a truck, though if you're interested.

I've driven old Chevys for 55 years and having as many as 6 of them at a time, I have replaced numerous mechanical fuel pumps on them. I've always purchased the basic auto parts store replacements, and they usually run trouble free for 20 or so years. Fancy stuff like Holley just deplete your wallet and create more problems for you.

For some reasons things aren't made as good as they used to be and finding quality parts is not easy any more.

FWIW, Holley is currently having a Memorial Day Sale. 62 pages of items, including fuel pump modules, bare module pumps, and even some "take-apart" mechanical pumps. Some are discounted much more than others, but usually at least 10%. Cat converters are on sale again, too. LOTS of t-shirts, too.

I'm not connected to them, just know good deals when they appear.

I put a Carter M6900 pump on myb383 a few years ago after having a Delco pump fail in under a year. Unlike Mark's, mine was not an older Delco, so who knows where it was made.
The Carter holds 7PSI without a reg and just works the way a pump should.

Can a stock OE style mechanical fuel pump pressure suddenly increase for some reason ?

I take the same approach as Gary, but the last mechanical fuel pump I replaced only lasted 5 or 6 years before it left me and my K10 stranded on the side of the road. I think the spring broke inside it.
