I am stripping the bumpers on my 79 Z28. I ran into something in the area behind the rear license plate that I cannot identify. It is pealing off like a large decal or protective sheet. Did the 79 Z28 have some sort of protective decal that was applied to the license plate cutout to protect against noise or vibration from the license plate?
My 78 had a clear protective sheet on the end trim pieces of the bumper but I don’t remember anything like that on the bumper itself.
Ok guys. Thank you. I will just check it up to a massive of buildup of paint from the numerous coats I am removing. Since it is behind the plate, it never wore down.
On the subject of bumpers: I was looking through the assembly manuals for the 78 and for the 79 models (14C-1). It appears there is a difference in how the front ilcense plate nuts are installed between the two years. The 78 appears to have them installed behind the bumper cover, whereas the 79 has them installed through the bumper cover. Twisted_Metal - if you have a front license plate, are the nuts installed directly into the front bumper?
My 78 has been gone for decades. My 80 didn’t have the factory bumper cover when I bought it so I really don’t know how either were originally mounted.
That is what I am thinking. So there is (was) something there? Do you know if there is a reproduction of it?
I believe so. https://www.camarocentral.com/1978_1981_Camaro_Rear_Bumper_License_Plate_Decal_p/stn-875.htm
