I have the 963 power series JBL 6x9 speakers. I paid 189.00 for them a yr ago, and now I see them on amazon for 153.00. I def would buy them again. Desperado, I use your sig line on my wife all the time. It's a good one....

Holy crap... those are 220w RMS per pair. Those are in my price range, but I dont think I need something quite that beefy. My amp delivers 65w RMS per channel.... and those 6x9s can handle nearly double that. LOL

I may have to check those out though. It peaks my curiosity.

All I have is 200 total watts from the kenwood receiver unit (marine stereo). Easily drives these speakers. Good clear sound. they also have a frequency switch to change the tweets brighter or softer.

I'll second the use of MB quarts speakers. I used thier 5 X 7 versions and they fit the rear speaker openings in our cars perfectly with no clearence issues with the spare tire!!!

Do you get decent bass out of the 5 X 7?

I use mine more for mid range & high's only. I have bass blockers wired into them. I have a powered 10" Bazzoka 100 watt tube in the trunk for my sub needs. In my doors in have MB Quarts seperates 5 1/4 mids & tweaters. My system is powered by two Sound-Streem amps. Both are old school D-200 's These are 200 watt amps x 2 ch @ 100 watts per ch. Front & rears = 400watts + 100 watt sub = 500 watt system total.

5x7 speakers fit the opennings in the rear package tray without any modifications or clearence issues. Yes 6 x 9 may have more bass capabilities but they do not fit the openings with out modifying the openning or mounting them from bellow & you still only having only a 5x7 openning for the sound to come threw. If you plan to cut the sheet metal on the package tray then you can use what ever you want back there.

Does a stereo need an amp? I always just used what came with the car because where I used to live it would have got stolen. My car has a pioneer super tuner 3 and real crappy speakers, so I know I would need to goet new speakers, do not know if a amp is needed.

Most of the newer tuners have 200 watts. IMO no amp is needed. They do sound a little better with one tho.

Get a space saver spare and use the speaker you like.
