Reverse Water Pump?

I have always wondered if you could modify an originally non-roller sbc (pre 1988?) to reverse flow cooling. The benefits are unlimited. Cooler operating temps, high compression before detonation... That's actually what got me to click on this thread.

Since GM already did a reverse cooling small block (1992-97 LT1/1996 LT4), why try and convert an older block. Sure it could be done, a few have tried it but nothing seems to have come of it.
