Rochester Q-jet carb vs Holley 770 cfm

Hello guys! I just found my orginal Rochester 4 barrel carb lying around in the basement. I just needs a cleaning and a rebuild kit. The number is 17080229. I want to swap it with the actual one on my engine. Its a Holley 80770 model. How is the Rochester better than this Holley aftermarket carb?

Thank you

Thanks for the info. After decoding it, this one is from a 1980 chevrolet camaro with a manual transmission and is most likely a 800 cfm. Its not from california and built by Carter. Will I still be able to hook this thing up even if my transmission is an automatic?

A Q-jet will kick the 770's butt every time, why you ask? because the secondary's on the 770 will never open out of the box the way Holley made it. Ask how I know and fixed it.

The throttle arm needs a stud for the kick-down cable if used for a TH350.

Post a pic of the driver’s side of the carb to see what’s needed.

I was told the driveability on a Rochester is really good and that the primaries are smaller than some aftermarket ones. Better fuel mileage is the way to go right now. Did you see the price at the pump?

Thank you for clarifying that. I dont have it with me. I brought it to the shop to show a friend to check it out. Underneath the carburetor, the flaps are stuck.
The flaps may not be stuck. Will the primaries open if you turn the throttle by hand? If so, crank it wide open and then the secondaries will open. The linkage locks the secondaries out until the primaries open to a certain point.

Great carb! Give Cliff Ruggles a call and give him your carb number. He has great rebuild kits and will talk to you about Qjets as long as you let him.

How did you adjust it to work properly? Also, I didnt know that you can match a Q-jet with a vortec intake. With those L31 I got last year, I wonder how it will all work out. Sounds interesting...
