Hi guys! I installed the Q-jet and it started but theres vaccum leaks around the throttle body gasket. It was nice and tight as well but still leaked air. Second, When you engage the accelerator, it stumbles and chokes but doesnt die out. One thing I forgot to notice was that the plunger I installed was ethanol resistant and i believe longer than the original one I took out. Is that why it doesnt accelarate properly? I was very dissapointed today. Anybody have these problems?

What intake manifold are you using Frank? The gasket should not be leaking, be careful not to over tighten it. With the float bowl full, can you manually (with engine off) work the throttle and see the accelerator pump squirt?

Hi Brent! my intake is a regular performer. I didnt check that but I suspect the plunger is too long or the rubber gasket in the plunger came off. What are you thinking of?

First find the air leak. It could be a wrong gasket or throttle shaft leak or rubber hose connections. Next look up original size acc. rod info. Then pop the top and fix acc. rod and/or reuse the original with new rubber. While you’re in there make sure the acc pump check ball is free and clear. Put it back together and see what happens.

I'm just thinking that if you used a square bore intake with a spread bore (QJet) carb, you will have gasket issues, and the secondaries won't have room to open.

I have a Performer RPM spread bore intake, and it says right on it "RPM QJet". When I switched to a 4150 base carb, I had to use an adapter for it to seal properly. I just can't remember if your intake is a spread bore or not.

its a spreadbore performer. The new gaskets really suck. I put back the used throttle body gasket and there is no more air leaks. the plunger was too long and the smaller one made a world of difference.
