Anybody know how to remove the little aluminum cap off the air horn behind the power valve towards the front of the carb? I rebuilt it and forgot to remove it.
Yeah, I recommend back in post #37. Drill shallow like 1/8” deep and tap threads in the plug. Use a like threaded screw to pull the plug out, make your adjustment with a special tool and then gently push that plug back in

You need to describe the experience better than that. Did you pull the the plug and adjust the tip in rod height. Did it run and idle right and were you able to adjust the idle jets? Did it run fine for twenty minutes and then start having the problem. Did it start missing or just loose power with the gas smell.

It ran fine for 20 minutes. I had the smell of gas from the start. At the street light on the stop, it will slowly die out if I dont keep pushing the gas.

It sounds like you have an extreme rich condition. There are a few things that can cause this on a Qjet. 1 floats, if they are not brass ones (typical) they can get porous and be to heavy. This is kinda the last thing that can happen but still possible. 2 floats adjusted wrong. 3 needle seat is hooked on the wrong position on the float and is sticking. 4 (typical problem) the vent holes are plugged and the carb drizzles gas into the primary side. Checking this goes like this. Start car look down the primary side and see if it is dripping gas down there. If so, take a small needle and clean out the vent holes that can be seen looking down the primary side (4 small holes). One thing if this is going on, the idle screws typically won’t adjust correctly. There could be other things but I would check these things out first, especially #4. All this is assuming all other thing are correct, such as timing, ignition parts, ie plugs , wires, cap and rotor and choke butterfly is fully open.

Thanks! Im gonna look at that with a second opinion at my side. Im in no hurry however, I have a holley 600 as a plan B if ever the problem does not get resolved.

You should have check that right off the bat. It make me think you should not be attempting any repairs to this carb. Take a zip tie or wire to hold the choke open. Then drive it the car and see if the carb is working OK. You should think about buying a book about QJets.

Bro lol...I have been working on this carb for 4 months. I rebuilt it wih a book on all the quadrajets. I put in a brass float with the performance seat that has the little windows at the bottom. Im gonna drive it with the choke off and see how it goes.
